ArtsCoast: Professional Funded Residency - Sunshine Coast - June 2022

What:

As part of ArtsCoast’s DANCE.HERE.NOW initiative we are seeking expressions of interest for the 2022 Professional Funded Dance Residency, in partnership with LJ Projects.

This opportunity is open to individual artists or collectives nationally with a contemporary professional dance practice to support the development of new dance works on the Sunshine Coast. Artists will be required to deliver an informal public outcome. Artists that embrace digital and emerging technologies to develop their practice are highly encouraged to apply.

As part of the residency artists will receive:

  • Contribution to expenses $8,000

  • 21 days in-kind dance studio space

  • Mentoring from LJProjects/ Industry Feedback [if required]

 

Who is this for:   

  • Local and National dance makers, both emerging and established  

  • Independent dance artists and groups of collaborating artists 

 

Proposals we particularly invite include [but are not limited to]:  

  • Projects that embrace emerging digital technologies  

  • Projects that are inclusive or elevate diverse voices

  • First Nations dance practitioners with priority to Kabi Kabi and Jinibara artists

  • Immersive or experimental works or performances

 

Residency Quick Facts:   

  • Up to $8,000 artist fees and project expenses (including travel and accommodation if required) 

  • Flexible artist-led development and residency format with options of mentorship, peer dialogue and community engagement.  

  • Three-week residency period. Available Dates 1 June – 22 June, 4 – 26 June or 10 June – 30 June  

  • Studio access available 24 hours (including weekends) at ArtsCoast, 2nd Space Studio 

  • Artists will be expected to present a small industry showing at completion of residency  

  • There is an expectation that selected Artist/s will hold at least 3 open classes per week 

  • Artists have access to Artist Liaison assistance with LJProjects throughout residency 

  • Artists from outside of the Sunshine Coast are expected to collaborate with Sunshine Coast based artists (from any discipline)

 

Studio Information:

  • 2nd Space Studio, 1/131 Currie St, Nambour 

  • Purpose built, ply flooring  

  • 110 sq mtrs, with showers, kitchen and amenities  

  • Wifi access 

  • Walking distance from train line – Nambour station (direct from Brisbane)

 

Please note: Unfortunately, 2nd Space Studio is not currently wheelchair accessible.

Background: 

DANCE.HERE.NOW. is a three year dance development initiative led by Sunshine Coast Council and ArtsCoast. This initiative is in partnership with dance sector professionals and is focused on creating more opportunities to experience dance.

As part of this initiative ArtsCoast has partnered with LJProjects for a series of funded professional dance residencies to support the development of new high-level dance works for potential audiences.

DANCE.HERE.NOW is supported by The Regional Arts Development Fund which is a partnership between Sunshine Coast Council and the Queensland Government to support local arts and culture in regional Queensland.
